The leaves are changing and fall is finally here. Perhaps you didn’t get to take a summer vacation or are just looking to get away for some time. Here are my favorite fall 2017 travel destinations.
Munich, Germany is home to the annual Oktoberfest events, making it a popular tourist destination every fall. Oktoberfest 2017 began on Saturday, September 16th. It is set to reach its conclusion on Tuesday, October 3rd. There are numerous attractions and activities that you will enjoy when you visit the event that is held in Munich.
Some of the most noteworthy of the happenings at Oktoberfest include:
• A parade through Munich during the first day
• The mayor tapping the first Oktoberfest-beer-barrel
• Family Day, during which families can attend the performances and go on rides for a discounted rate
• A traditional religious mass
• Brass bands playing a traditional concert at the foot of the Bavaria
• The festival conclusion with a traditional gun salute held on the steps of the Bavaria monument
This surely is a do-not-miss event. However, if you cannot attend this year, you should start planning for Oktoberfest 2018.
Asheville, North Carolina
If you are looking for the ultimate experience when it comes to autumn sight-seeing, you will want to explore Asheville, North Carolina. The landscape is beautiful, a pristine natural location with one of the longest Fall foliage seasons in the United States. There is much to do in Asheville during the Fall.
You are sure to enjoy the climate during your trip to Asheville during the autumn months. The average temperatures are in the mid 60’s. If you would like to visit a mountain terrain for some hiking to see the foliage, be sure to check out the Gorges State Park. Grandfather Mountain features one of the highest peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Also, you can view a breathtaking waterfall right along US 276, which is called Looking Glass Falls. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park also is a must to visit when you are in Asheville.
Another excellent way in which you can pass your time is to stop by an orchard for apple picking. The Orchard at Overpass is off the Blue Ridge Parkway, and not only has apples for sale, it offers music shows and you can purchase fresh fudge.
Chicago, Illinois is truly a delight to behold during the fall. You will want to travel there early in the season, as it becomes cold earlier than many other regions. From sports to arts and culture there is sure to be something for everyone in the family when you travel to Chicago.
Chicago surely is the right place for sports. Catch a Bear’s game at Soldier Field or visit the iconic Wrigley Field, home to the Cubs, the 2016 World Series Champion. This is a wonderful idea for the whole family, a couple, or friends.
Arts & Culture
Head over to the Grant Park area where you will find the Art Institute of Chicago, which is home to over 300,000 works in their permanent collection including pieces from van Gogh, Monet, and Renoir. While in the Grant Park area visitors can also take in the Field Museum. The Field Museum, an extensive natural history museum sits on half an acre of Grant Park and is a great family-friendly activity.
A trip to Chicago would not be complete without visiting the Skydeck at the Willis Tower, formerly the Sears Tower. Prior to the completion of the new World Trade Center in New York City in 2014, the 108-floor Willis Tower was the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. While on the Skydeck (located on the 103 floor), visitors can step onto a fully enclosed glass platform with views and down and around Chicago.
New Orleans, Louisiana
Are you looking for something out of the ordinary to check out this fall? Why not consider going to Voo Doo Fest in New Orleans, with its wide array of musical acts and other entertainment. It is being held from October 27th through the 29th. Some of the musicians you will hear include Foo Fighters, The Killers, Crystal Castles, Post Malone, Strand of Oaks, The Afghan Whigs, Benjamin Booker, Flint Eastwood, and the James Hunter Six.
This event also includes an amazing variety of cuisine, including the Forked Up Food Court. Enjoy the art that will be displayed throughout the venue, such as the immersive large-scale art installations that are completely interactive.
